Spotlight on soloist – Jasmine Milton
Originally from Adelaide, violinist Jasmine Milton is currently in her second year of study,undertaking a Bachelor of Music (Honours) degree at the University of Queensland under the tutelage of Associate Professor Adam Chalabi. As an experienced orchestral musician, Jasmine has performed with the Adelaide and Sydney Symphony Orchestras and was invited to play as a guest musician at the Australian National Academy of Music earlier this year. She has participated in Australian Youth Orchestra programs since 2018 and held principal positions at national music camp both seasons this year.
Jasmine has studied the violin since she was four years old and has participated in youth ensembles, community orchestras, and Adelaide’s Elder Conservatorium of Music’s symphony orchestra throughout her years at high school. She is currently a member of the UQ Symphony Orchestra, UQ Pulse Chamber Orchestra and will be touring Germany, Austria, and Singapore with the Queensland Youth Symphony later this year.
Jasmine is a founding member of the Piruli Quartet, which won the Flinders Quartet mentorship in Musica Viva’s Strike a Chord Competition (2021), receiving coaching by the renowned Flinders Quartet as a result. She has also benefited from mentoring from the Australian Chamber Orchestra, as a member of the ACO Academy from 2017 to 2019, and from masterclasses with Ray Chen, Pinchas Zukerman, Robin Wilson and Dale Baltrop. She received her Associate Diploma (A.Mus.A) in2017 and was awarded the Jean Adelaide Madeline Dent Scholarship for the most successful diploma violin candidate that year.
